Ronnie Braithwaite (he/they) is a Black, nonbinary filmmaker born, raised, and based in Atlanta, Georgia. His feature directorial debut, Black@: A Black Students Matter Movement, explores how Black students at predominantly white private Pre-K-12 schools navigate racial identity, belonging, racial consciousness, and internalized racism. Across his work, Braithwaite examines how marginalized people internalize oppression, confront the systems that shape how they see themselves, and reclaim their identities on their own terms. He wrote and produced the 11-time award-winning short film Woke (2017) and later directed Bipolart (2022) and He They (2023), which explore internalized oppression related to mental illness and gender identity. His films have screened at festivals in Atlanta, Miami, New York, Los Angeles, London, Cannes, and other cities worldwide. Ronnie graduated cum laude from the University of Miami with a BBA focused on marketing, screenwriting, and motion pictures and earned an MBA from Clark Atlanta University. His professional background in learning and development and inclusion further informs his commitment to creating stories that inspire introspection, growth, and empowerment within marginalized Black communities.
